Glen Bond May 20, 2007 Picayune Ms Subject : You must forsake all The rich young ruler: Matt 19:16, Mark 10:17, Luke 18:18 The world wants to go to heaven. Everyone will come to Christ for salvation or they will not get salvation. This young man came to Christ and asked about salvation. Just like some of you here tonight, you came here because you know that there is a hell to avoid. You come here to inquire of salvation. You know that this life is limited. you know that you must die sooner or later. You have all heard about eternal life in paradise. This eternal life sounds good to us, especially when we have trials here in this life. But what are you willing to do to obtain this eternal life. This young man was not willing to do what was needed. Will you be like him? Will you turn away from salvation and go back to a way that leads to death? He came to inquire of the Lord. The Lord told him what he must do. He refused to do it. Will you refuse to do what must be done for salvation? He loved his possessions too much to give them up. What do you have that you won't give up for salvation. It is evident that he loved the world because he went away sorrowful. He did not want to give up his great possessions. Even the poorest person on earth has great possessions. Every one of us has something that we want to hold on to, something that we will not give up for salvation. You must be willing to give up everything to obtain salvation. Luke 14:33 33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Disciple A disciple of Christ is one who (1) believes his doctrine, (2) rests on his sacrifice, (3) imbibes (or receives: to have in yourself) his spirit, and (4) imitates his example You must forsake all for Christ. You say "I don't want to forsake all." No, none of us do. This rich young man didn't want to either. But you WILL forsake all or you will die without hope. You will forsake all of your material possesoins, you will forsake all of your ideas, all of your pride, you will forsake everything that you have. Like the man seeking pearls: Matt. 13:45 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. The Lord won't leave you to be a pauper. Mark 10:29 29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. Look to Christ. in faith, just as the woman touched in faith. Mark 5:25 and Luke 8:43 25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, 26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, 27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. 28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. 29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? 31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? The woman touched in faith. She had already given all of her money to the doctors. Now she has forsaken every bit of self righteousness and dignity that she has. She has given up all of her pride and is crawling in the dirty street just to touch the edge of the Lords clothes. She didn't care who saw her, she didn't care what they thought about her. She wanted to be healed. And that is how you will come You won't care what somebody thinks about you. you will WANT salvation before you ever receive it. You must come to him in faith. You can't come to Christ in faith while you are dragging all of the world with you . Faith is believing. She touched the edge of Christ's clothes. She went through a throng of people. You want to be saved? Christ said many times "be not afraid, only believe." The world is blinded to their spiritual condition. The world will not accept Christ as saviour
