The Bible School of the Air Glen Bond Sunday Dec. 24, 2006 Baton Rouge Subject: Christ - the valid substitute This is the Bible school of the air. Coming to you from the First Baptist Church of Algiers. We are located at 1923 Marilyn Dr. in Baton Rouge LA. This is Bro. Glen Bond standing in for Bro Freddie. I ask that you stay tuned for the next 2 hours and listen to Gods word.. [(PRAY)] I want to speak today on the subject of "Christ - the valid substitute". My purpose in coming here to speak is to magnify Christ. I want to speak as the apostle Paul did, as recorded in Acts 9:20 Acts 9:20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. And in so doing I hope that you will see Christ exalted and come to him for salvation. First, I want to look at John 11:39 - 45 This is talking about our Lord raising Lazarus from the dead. I'm not going to read the whole story: John 11:39 39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. 40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. 42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. 43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. 44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. 45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. What I want you to see here is that Jesus Christ "IS" the son of God. He has the Power of God. God created man on this Earth, as recorded in the first part of Genesis. He created man from, in essence, nothing, because he created the earth from nothing, and man is made from the dust of the Earth. God created man and is able to bring back to life even the dead body that stinketh. This is the power of God. Jesus Christ was sent by God the Father to come and die for sinners. As plainly shown in 1 Tim.1:15 He had the power of God, this has to mean something. God wouold not give this kind of power to just anyone, if so, we would all be able to raise the dead. Here is another great indication that Jesus was God - Look at John 12:28. Christ spoke directly to God the Father, audibly, and God the Father answered him audibly for all to hear. John 12:28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. Would God have answered an imposter? The direct answer of God here is nothinig more than a confirmation that Jesus Christ IS the son of God. So with so much evidence that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, why won't you believe on him?? What more evidence do you need? 1 Timithy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Christ is the son of God, he did come to this Earth to die for sinners, he did rise again, and he is now in heaven with the Father. He made the perfect sacrifice for every sinner. Are you a sinner? Do you need a sacrifice? TO every sinner -I tell you like Christ told them in Luke 14:17 - Come; for all things are now ready Every sinner can come to Christ for salvation. Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD We have seen that Christ is the son of God. and that he come to die for sinners. Do you think that you are excluded? maybe because Christ only came to save the Jews? Satan will show you all kinds of so called 'proof' that you can't be saved. Matt. 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel Is this a stumbling block to you? Every one of us here are of the gentiles. I don't think that there are any of the house of Israel here, Christ said that he was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Well doesn't that exclude all of us gentiles? NO! Mat 15:22-28 Shows how that the Lord gave even to this "dog" what she asked. Lets read that: Mat 15:22-28 also in Mark 7:25 22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. 23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. 24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. 26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. 27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. 28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. Christ said that he came to save the lost of Israel, but here he saved this woman, he gave her what she asked. He said that he came to the house of Israel, but if we look farther, we see that he included the Gentiles. I want you to see who will be with Him in heaven. Rev. 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; This does away with any kind of idea that you must be related to Gods people. Must be a jew, cant be a Saudi, cant be from China or Africa etc. How can this be? This is why Look at Romans 9:6 Romans 9:6,7 6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: 7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. Paul tells us here plainly that all of the people of Israel will not be saved, just as all of the Gentiles will not be saved. But he tells us that "in Isaac shall thy seed be called". Jesus Christ is of the seed of Isaac. This speaks of Christ. Our Perfect Sacrifice. Christ calls us, he died for us, he saves us. Look at it again: Romans 9:6,7 For they are not all Israel (the children of God), which are of Israel (by birth): 7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham (by birth), are they all children (of God): but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called (Christ will call the elect). Your not an Israelie? There is hope. Then on over in that same chapter - Romans - Romans 9:30 - 32 30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. (This is salvation) 31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. (They have not obtained salvation) 32 Wherefore? (or, why have they not obtained salvation?) Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; (The Jews tried to obtain their salvation by works) Salvation has come to the gentiles - you and me. But it comes to you and me just as it comes to those of Israel - vs 32. It must be sought by faith. You must seek the Lord, and you must believe that he will save you. Look what it says in Ephesians 2:8 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Now, If you were saved by anything that you had done, just imagine what heaven would be. Everybody would be going around bragging about what they had done to get into heaven. There would be no praising the Lord for saving a sinner. Just a bunch of braggarts. So then salvation is a gift of God. A free gift. Ephesians 2:8 says that salvation is a gift. The def. of gift is: Anything given; anything voluntarily transferred by one person to another without compensation; a present; an offering. So then salvation is a gift. you cannot buy it. You cannot work for it. Salvation is given to those who will ask for it. In the gospel of John, seven times we are told to "ask and ye shall recieve". Seven times! Now we can't just ask anything, we must ask according to the will of God. Here are some of the conditions that Christ put on asking: Matt 21:22 You must believe - whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing John 15:7 If ye abide in me, (meaning that you are saved or turned from sin) and my words abide in you John 15:16 Ask in the name of Christ - that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father "in my name", And this verse Matt 18:19 if two of you shall agree... Now, we can't ask for a fancy car. But we can ask for salvation. Yet, we must ask. Look what Gods word says about asking. James 4:1-3 1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. And look... 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. You say, "I have prayed that the Lord will save me, and i'm still lost." You have asked amiss. Yes, you want to be saved only because you don't want to burn in hell. you say, "Well whats wrong with not wanting to burn in Hell?" You want to continue on in you unbelief, continue following after the world. You don't want to seek the Lord - you don't want to make the effort, because you don't want to stop your pleasures to do it. The problem is with that old proud heart. You won't have the perfect sacrifice. You want to do something yourself. Your pride won't let you have the sacrifice that Christ made. The main reason that you won't have that sacrifice is because You are blind to your spiritual condition. Do you say, Yea, I want to be saved, but I'm too busy to seek the Lord. I have a ball game tonight, I have a golf game on saturday, I go bowling on tuesdays, ... on and on. You never have time to seek the Lord. Well, if you don't have time to seek him now, while he may be found, you will have plenty of time in Hell, but then, he will NEVER be found. You must ask. You will ask.... Before the Lord ever saves you, you will beg. You will beg just as that woman of Caanan did beg of Christ. Look at the example that Christ gave us: Turn and lets read: Luke 11:5-13 He says "...because of his importunity" That word importunity means to have an urgent and continual begging and pleading. That is how every person who ever gets saved, comes to Christ. And thats how you will come, or you will never be saved. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Christ was the perfect sacrifice. In Roman 5:19 We have the 'effect' of adams sin, passing to us, and then we have the effect of the perfect sacrifice. Roman 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
